Design & hospitality: how space tells an experience

In contemporary hotels, design is no longer an aesthetic dress. It is a strategic tool that programs customer experience, justifies the pricing strategy and structures competitive differentiation.

Space as the first message

Before the first word exchanged with the staff, the customer has already received hundreds of signals from the entrance: materials, light, ceiling height, sound, smell. These signals are an implicit promise that the experiment will have to keep.

Establishments that successfully align these signals with their tariff positioning create a perceived consistency that justifies the price to the customer. Those who fail generate dissonance that translates directly into negative opinions and downward pressure on tariffs.

Design and RevPAR: the causal link

A study of 40 establishments with extensive design renovations shows an average increase in RevPAR of 18% within 18 months of reopening, well beyond mere market price inflation.

This gain can be explained by three mechanisms: improved occupancy rate (best online capture), increased average price (willingness to pay), and reduced discount rate on-line.

Our perspective

Well thought-out hotel design is not a luxury: it is a measurable lever of profitability. Projects that integrate it from the earliest feasibility systematically achieve better operational performance.
